Family Law

We are leading family law experts

Collaborate law is a process for resolving legal issues in a non-adversarial and mutually-beneficial way, to reduce conflict and stress and promote amicable, respectful relationships for the long-term.

Family Lawyers Sydney

In collaborative practice, participants join with experts to form a problem-solving team tasked with formulating a separation agreement, helping participants to move on with their separate lives.

Collaborative practice avoids the traditional ‘us-and-them’ dynamic of legal practice such as formal correspondence by letters, and litigation.

Collaborative practice suits participants who have a desire to minimise conflict, who want to work with their ex-spouse towards designing a mutually-workable separation.

It is well-suited to participants who have a civil relationship and want this to continue.

Participants will often say they want to be able to see each other at their children’s sports events, birthdays and weddings, perhaps with their own new partners, and be able to enjoy themselves and focus on the kids rather than their personal disagreements.

Collaborative practice is the ideal way to achieve this.

The collaborate team includes a coach/facilitator, and can include experts such as valuers and accountants, to help participants understand their financial affairs and generate options to divide and distribute shared wealth.

The team holds a series of meetings to discuss barriers to agreement and workshop solutions.

As all relationships are unique, all collaborative processes are, too.

The number of barriers to problem-solve and the complexity of the participants‘ circumstances will determine the length of the process.
